dannys-kopitiam

quote I dropped into Danny’s Kopitiam for lunch and left with the unshakable feeling that I’d just eaten at the happiest intersection between Penang and paradise. The place hums with charm — part café, part time machine, and wholly delightful. The combination hor fun was so good I briefly considered proposing to it, and the char kway teow had more personality than most dinner parties I’ve attended. It’s smoky, saucy, and slightly indecent — just the way noodles should be. But the real star of the show — the prima donna of the dessert world — is the sago pudding. It arrived modestly, glistening like a diplomat’s handshake, and tasted like summer got a postgraduate degree in comfort. The service? Impeccable. The kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve wandered into a relative’s kitchen — the one who actually likes you. Danny’s Kopitiam isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an argument for joy. And like all great arguments, I left full, happy, and entirely convinced.

four-seasons-bbq-house

quote Today was my first visit to Four Seasons Tea House, and I went with my son. We were both very impressed! He had the Hainanese Chicken Rice, which came with a drink. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the rice—cooked in chicken broth with special seasoning—was absolutely delicious. My son really enjoyed it. I ordered the Preserved Vegetable and Shredded Pork Noodle Soup, and it tasted so authentic that it brought back memories of my life in Hong Kong. The flavors were rich and comforting—just like home. We’re already looking forward to coming back to try more dishes on the menu. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic Asian flavors!

jalan-alor-ferntree-gully

quote A busy little shop that offers super delicious food at very affordable prices! They have a $10 meal option with multiple dishes, one of them is kolomie — it was generously sized, loaded with toppings, and absolutely tasty. I also tried their bitter melon pork soup with rice, which was hearty and packed with authentic flavor. Service was very quick as well. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!

jalan-alor-mitcham

quote Jalan Alor is one of the newer Malaysian restaurants, which also comes highly recommended by some, although reading some of the reviews it seems everyone's experiences can be quite mixed. Our summary: The Good 👍 - Cheap dishes at $10 for most and $15.50 for noodles. 💰 - Serving size is average, so fairly good value for money. 🍽️ - Authentic Kopitiam vibe - The CKT was actually quite decent with wok hey The OK - The Sawarak Kolo mee was just a lot of noodles 🍜 with some meat, no veggies. I guess for $10 I can't complain but here I am writing about this. - Fish head curry was decent. - the Satay had a different peanut sauce flavour than what we would normally have elsewhere. Not bad, just different. The bad 😞 - The KL Hokkien mee wasn't great. Too sweet and had a very very fishy (squid) after taste. Also took about 30mins to come. - the Sweet Chee Chong Fun was again very sweet but and the noodles were stuck together and hard in some places. Tbh if not for the stuck hard noodles this dish would have been ok to good. Overall, if you are looking for cheap Malaysian eats and aren't too fussed on quality, this place is worth a try. If you want something which is actually good, there are many other places in and around east of Melbourne!

lemongrass-restaurant

quote My Khmer wife and I decided to try Lemongrass Restaurant after noticing how busy and popular it looked—and we’re glad we did! The restaurant is small but clean, tidy, and well set up. The menu was a real standout—clear, with pictures of every dish and descriptions in both English and Khmer, which made ordering a breeze. We each chose a lunch dish and also ordered a takeaway to enjoy later. Every dish we had was delicious, and my Cambodian wife was especially impressed by the quality and authenticity of the food—high praise indeed! No complaints at all: great food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone after genuine, tasty Cambodian cuisine.
