belgrave-fish-chips

quote Fantastic experience every time! The food is always fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The fish is perfectly cooked with a light, crispy batter, and the chips are golden, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Portion sizes are generous and great value for money. The service is friendly, fast, and welcoming, even during busy hours. You can tell they really care about quality and customer satisfaction. The shop is clean, well run, and has a great local vibe. Easily one of the best fish & chip shops in the area – highly recommended and definitely a regular go-to!

quote Sandy (owner) will welcome you here personally! The updated and authentic decorè makes for a pleasent environment and the Chinese and Cantonese dishes served are the best in Ferntree Gully. The menu and drinks range is extensive and tweeks to any dish for your liking are accomodated with pleasure. There's private group dining available to suit any occasion and with generous windows giving the room breathable ambiance, it feels spacious and special. I eat here weekly, but when I do need to order home delivery, their Uber Eats option is only a 0.99 delivery charge! Every dish I have ever tried is on point and authentic. And I have eaten most of the menu 😁 Hands down, if you're after quality and the most delicious food with exeptional service, Jade Pavillion is the resturant you want.

quote Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen, Ferntree Gully Review Update 19/11/2025 Today is the battle of Hokkien Mee — KL vs Singapore. I like the dark sauce, smooth KL style, while my prefers the light colour with a mixture of Singapore style. Both have some pork fat bits. This is a good value eatery, and we manage to have of each dish taken home for the evening. They are no losers in the battle. They both score well. ——— Review Update on 15/8/2025 The Lo Bak was passable in flavour, but visually underwhelming. Instead of the expected golden brown crispness, it arrived dark and dull — suggesting either over-frying or oil fatigue. A missed opportunity for contrast and crunch. Consistency should be the cornerstone of any kitchen, especially when serving culturally iconic dishes. Unfortunately, the KL Hokkien Mee here missed the mark. The gravy lacked the signature richness and cling—thin and watery, with limp sotong that seemed over-tenderised. The absence of gi yao ja (crispy pork lardon bits) was a notable omission. Singapore Hokkien Mee was also served. While not my preferred variant, my wife and her companion enjoyed it. Still, both dishes shared an indistinguishable texture, suggesting a one-size-fits-all cooking method—technically incorrect given their distinct culinary identities. The Claypot Seafood Noodles looked promising, with generous prawns and fish balls. However, the claypot arrived without the expected bubbling heat, diminishing the sensory experience. The restaurant was bustling at first, but emptied quickly after the initial wave—perhaps a reflection of crowd-driven popularity rather than enduring quality. I may be exacting, but when it comes to heritage dishes, precision matters. ————— Reviewed on 17/1/2025 Nestled away from the bustling and competitive Malaysian restaurant scene, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen in Ferntree Gully offers a delightful escape with its affordable prices and authentic flavours. This hidden gem manages to keep costs low without compromising on quality, making it a standout choice for Malaysian cuisine enthusiasts. My visit took place on a weekday afternoon, and the café was buzzing with the lively chatter of Malaysian and Singaporean patrons, easily identifiable by their accents. The setting is reminiscent of a traditional kopi tiam, with its clean and welcoming environment, small tables, plastic stools, and paper cups for water, creating a cozy and unpretentious dining experience. Despite the trend of some restaurants cutting down on serving fried noodles due to high labour costs, Jalan Alor proudly offers a wide array of Malaysian favourites. From the aromatic Chow Kuey Teow (CKT) and Hokkien Mee to the flavourful Mee Goreng, nasi lemak, curry, and laksa dishes, the menu is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. The CKT, with its strong Wok Hei and generous sprinkling of dried pork bits, was a delight that could satisfy even the most discerning CKT critic. The Singapore Hokkien Mee, distinct from its KL counterpart which is fried with dark soy sauce, was equally impressive. Although I usually prefer KL Hokkien Mee, I found the Singapore version to be just as delicious. I suggest that a little extra gravy could improve the texture and enhance the flavour further. One of the most appealing aspects of Jalan Alor is its pricing. The dishes are more affordable compared to many competitors, making it well worth the trip to savour the authentic flavors without breaking the bank. In conclusion, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Malaysian cuisine in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this café promises a memorable dining experience that will leave you coming back for more.

quote We found this shop on Google and decided to give it a try. The chicken kottu parotta was really good. The beef kottu was a bit saucy and not very crispy, but still flavorful. The village rice was awesome and tasted great. Finally, the wattalappam dessert was absolutely amazing. Overall, a good experience!
