Note: I ordered my meal on Doordash so unfortunately I can't comment on the service and atmoshphere. I can only comment on the food.
Really enjoyed the food I got here. I ordered a Burger with the Lot Snack Pack which included Chips and Two Potato Cakes. The entire pack only cost me $20. It tasted really fantastic. Burger was cooked really well, wasn't too greasy and the Burger wasn't convoluted too which was great. I also bought a Pineapple Fritter which was way bigger and juicer than I've had at other Chippies. I also got a Deep Fried Mars Bar which was really sweet, soft and gooey on the inside.
Overall I only ended up paying $26.70 for my whole meal (this total is not including a service fee for using Doordash or a delivery fee). It was amazing how affordable my whole order was.
Great work team! I'll definitely need to come back!

First, the obvious thing: this place is a value play. Where else can you get this much food for the prices they charge?
But how does it taste? The food is nothing to shout about. The saving grace is that their sambal is pretty good. Other than that, it was pretty meh!
And service? Nonexistent. To be expected. But to make things worse, even after repeating my order THREE times (asked for curry fish fillet bee hoon, not the regular white soup one), they still got it wrong!!! Seriously? Then it took more than 30 mins to get our food with appetizer coming last. I mean does nasi lemak take 30mins??? And it was pretty clear that they were prioritising takeaways because the guy after me got his food 15 mins before me.
Nope - not worth the hassle even at the attractive prices.

La Chanh is another solid Vietnamese spot along Victoria Street with a wide range of dishes. We tried the pho and the vermicelli bowl.
The pho had a light, delicious beef stock with chicken — no heavy MSG or oily feel like some other spots on the street. The noodles were okay in texture, and the chicken was cooked nicely.
The vermicelli bowl was refreshing, and the chicken was cooked well. We also added a side of pork, which I felt could’ve been slightly more charred to get that smoky flavour that many places do.
Overall, a decent experience and another good option along Victoria Street.

I found this little gem without any expectations. It felt like walking into someone's house who is keen to cook for me. The elderly man was most likely the owner who seemed like a humble human being with culinary skill.
He helped us order and we were rapt with the dishes. The lamb ding ding noodles was just filling and flavourful. I surely want to try the other dishes next time and on top of that he was kind enough to let me try the Yoghurt drink for free! I just couldn't thank him enough for the hospitality.

Had the lunch pack. 1 pce fried flake, dim sim, potato cake and small chips for $14.00.
Everything was great. Chips were perfect. Flake was really good and potato cake was fantastic.

Solid value, generous portions, with room for small improvements
I had a really enjoyable meal at Nan Yang Express Hawthorn. I especially liked the braised pork trotter rice, which was rich and comforting, as well as the fish fillet thin noodles, clean in flavour and very satisfying.
The portion sizes are generous, and with most dishes sitting around $20 per person, this place strikes a very reasonable balance between value for money and taste. It’s not flashy food, but it’s honest, filling, and well executed.
The food was served very quickly, which was a big plus — though this may also be because we were among the first customers to arrive.
That said, there is some room for improvement in the dining experience. I had to spend a bit of time finding the menu, as no one introduced the ordering process, and cutlery was self-serve in a designated area, which wasn’t explained either. Once you know the system it’s fine, but clearer guidance would make the first visit smoother.
Overall, still a solid and affordable option, and definitely worth a try, especially if you enjoy comforting, no-nonsense meals.
