马来西亚菜

Because Peninsular Malaysia shares a common history with Singapore, it is common to find versions of the same dish across both sides of the border regardless of place of origin, such as laksa and chicken rice. Rice is the most important staple food in Malaysia. A popular dish based on rice in Malaysia is nasi lemak, rice steamed with coconut milk and pandan leaves to give it a rich fragrance.

quote Our adventure started on a weekend when we were already exhausted…two consecutive days and nights spent moving apartments, topped off with a pub crawl the night before that left us hungover and unable to stomach anything. That’s when we stumbled upon the holy grail: Muthu’s. We’ve DoorDashed and UberEats’d from here before, but visiting in person is an entirely different experience, one I’d highly recommend. The food was phenomenal. I’ve had Tamil (South Indian) cuisine across 6–7 countries, and even back home in Dubai where there’s a massive Tamil diaspora, nothing comes close to what Muthu creates. His dosas and vadas genuinely rival what you’d find in Tamil Nadu itself. The vada is handmade (one of the only places in Wellington that doesn’t rely on frozen, premade vadas or dosa batter). Everything is fresh, authentic, and made with real skill. Muthu is not just an incredible cook, he’s also a genuinely great guy to chat with. Me and the Mrs will definitely be coming back whenever we’re craving a true taste of home. 🙌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

quote Rasa Lemak Manis in Padstow is a fantastic find. My wife and I had the nasi lemak with ayam goreng for $17 each, authentic, flavourful and great value for money. They didn't have the beef rendang (which I was keen on), but we’ll definitely be back to try more. The Malay music in the background made it feel like we were in Malaysia.

quote I really like the staff here, very friendly and kind. Unfortunately on my last trip I made the mistake of ordering a non-malaysian dish of Mapo Tofu because it was cheaper than other dishes. It was literally inedible. I put 3 stars for food, but really this dish was a 0/10. The saltiness in the sauce was like drinking from the dead sea and added with the numbing sensation of the sichaun peppers, I just couldn't bring myself to eat it. So I went hungry. I really should have told the owner, but felt bad as they are so lovely. But I don't want anyone else to have to have this experience. Stay away from this dish and stick to traditional Malay dishes.

quote Yin Malaysian restaurant is a must visit for authentic, delicious Malysian food. I've been back twice so far, and the hainanese chicken rice really impressed me the first time around. Rice was fragrant and had a strong chicken aroma, whilst the chicken itself was juicy and not dry at all. As for the Stir fried hor fun, as you can see, they cooked it without using much oil, which is the trademark of a well done, Cantonese style stir fried hor fun. The beef was tender too, and I will definitely be back for a third visit!
