Excellent value and the quality of the Hainan chicken rice is 10/10. Condiments (chilli and lemongrass/garlic) provided on table, as you could never have too much, as more often than not, seems to always have so little and in need of more.
Wished they can do an option with just the chicken liver, excluding the giblets, but from my perspective, shouldn’t affect my current 5 star rating for this restaurant.
Also tried their Laksa with chicken and pork. The soup was insanely good. Everything in it was delicious, and enjoyed the buttery soft texture of the eggplant.

I was craving chicken rice and decided to give this store a visit as it was located in the city near Chinatown. It was not disappointed and I enjoyed the fragrant chicken rice. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the chilli sauce on the side was a game changer. If you are a fan of chicken giblets I would recommend it as well, its rare to find a place that does it well. I loved the Three Layers Tea (Teh C Special) as it reminded me of home. The staff were really friendly and were open to feedback, and I look forward to returning again very soon! Keep up the good work!

📍Hainan Chicken Chinatown, Melbourne
@hainanchickengroup Chinatown is another affordable and authentic Malaysian comfort food that has been making waves in the foodie community. Had to try it out as Malaysian food hasn’t disappointed me even once yet. We ordered Thai Style Tofu ($8.30), Hainan Chicken Rice + Chicken Giblets ($16.80), Bak Kut Teh ($15.80), Taro Rice ($5.80) and Bean Sprouts ($5.80).
Honestly considering the price, it was a solid hearty meal. Taste was authentic even for my Malaysian girlfriend - who was especially impressed by the beautiful springy chicken skin and tender meat. We were so surprised by the portion size, everything was huge and could feed a crowd. Bak Kut Teh comes with complimentary white rice and chinese doughnuts, perfect to soak up all that herbal umami goodness. Their chilli sauce and ginger scallion sauce was amazingly flavourful as well.
By the end of it, we were so full with all these wonderful dishes (but still no leftover! ahahah). Give it a try the next time you swing by Chinatown!

Had the weekday lunchtime special. Roast chicken and rice with cabbage soup, steamed Chinese broccoli, lychee soda. Cost $19.80. Service is very polite and the food and drink is served within 5 minutes. Staff very helpful.Chilli and ginger sauces available.

Ordered through DoorDash, food was packaged inadequately for transportation. The soup from the Bak Kut Teh leaked out and the coffee spilled completely as it was packaged in a paper cup that leaked from the top and impact to the side of the cup resulted in the bottom of the cup blowing out.
What was left of the food was fairly good, not sure about the use of canned mushrooms instead if shitake mushrooms though.
