a-great-place

quote I’ve been dining here for several years now, and the prices here are incredibly affordable! They haven’t raised their prices in over three years, and there’s no surcharge at all—truly a restaurant with integrity. The portion sizes are very generous, totally worth the price, especially at this tough period, I believe this is a good behaviour that all the restaurants should learn from A Great Place. What’s even more impressive is the staff’s service—super friendly and attentive, far exceeding the service you get at many takeaway places. Every visit feels welcoming. Highly recommend!

quote Note: I ordered my meal on Doordash so unfortunately I can't comment on the service and atmoshphere. I can only comment on the food. Really enjoyed the food I got here. I ordered a Burger with the Lot Snack Pack which included Chips and Two Potato Cakes. The entire pack only cost me $20. It tasted really fantastic. Burger was cooked really well, wasn't too greasy and the Burger wasn't convoluted too which was great. I also bought a Pineapple Fritter which was way bigger and juicer than I've had at other Chippies. I also got a Deep Fried Mars Bar which was really sweet, soft and gooey on the inside. Overall I only ended up paying $26.70 for my whole meal (this total is not including a service fee for using Doordash or a delivery fee). It was amazing how affordable my whole order was. Great work team! I'll definitely need to come back!

quote DO NOT EAT HERE!! once you’ve eaten once you’ll definitely go back for more :) The food honestly is pretty good, and the portion sizes are amazing for the price—make sure to eat it when it’s fresh though (Meal for One & Potato Cakes) The owners here are very nice too! It’s a great, quick local spot for food

j-sushi-cafe

quote It's a small cafe with reasonable price and good portion. There's outdoor seatings if you have pets. Majority of the bento sets are between 18 to 19.50. Tonkatsu is about 15.50. Sushimi is about 15.50 for 12 pieces. Quite a few variety to choose from.

jalan-alor-ferntree-gully

quote Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen, Ferntree Gully Review Update 19/11/2025 Today is the battle of Hokkien Mee — KL vs Singapore. I like the dark sauce, smooth KL style, while my prefers the light colour with a mixture of Singapore style. Both have some pork fat bits. This is a good value eatery, and we manage to have of each dish taken home for the evening. They are no losers in the battle. They both score well. ——— Review Update on 15/8/2025 The Lo Bak was passable in flavour, but visually underwhelming. Instead of the expected golden brown crispness, it arrived dark and dull — suggesting either over-frying or oil fatigue. A missed opportunity for contrast and crunch. Consistency should be the cornerstone of any kitchen, especially when serving culturally iconic dishes. Unfortunately, the KL Hokkien Mee here missed the mark. The gravy lacked the signature richness and cling—thin and watery, with limp sotong that seemed over-tenderised. The absence of gi yao ja (crispy pork lardon bits) was a notable omission. Singapore Hokkien Mee was also served. While not my preferred variant, my wife and her companion enjoyed it. Still, both dishes shared an indistinguishable texture, suggesting a one-size-fits-all cooking method—technically incorrect given their distinct culinary identities. The Claypot Seafood Noodles looked promising, with generous prawns and fish balls. However, the claypot arrived without the expected bubbling heat, diminishing the sensory experience. The restaurant was bustling at first, but emptied quickly after the initial wave—perhaps a reflection of crowd-driven popularity rather than enduring quality. I may be exacting, but when it comes to heritage dishes, precision matters. ————— Reviewed on 17/1/2025 Nestled away from the bustling and competitive Malaysian restaurant scene, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen in Ferntree Gully offers a delightful escape with its affordable prices and authentic flavours. This hidden gem manages to keep costs low without compromising on quality, making it a standout choice for Malaysian cuisine enthusiasts. My visit took place on a weekday afternoon, and the café was buzzing with the lively chatter of Malaysian and Singaporean patrons, easily identifiable by their accents. The setting is reminiscent of a traditional kopi tiam, with its clean and welcoming environment, small tables, plastic stools, and paper cups for water, creating a cozy and unpretentious dining experience. Despite the trend of some restaurants cutting down on serving fried noodles due to high labour costs, Jalan Alor proudly offers a wide array of Malaysian favourites. From the aromatic Chow Kuey Teow (CKT) and Hokkien Mee to the flavourful Mee Goreng, nasi lemak, curry, and laksa dishes, the menu is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. The CKT, with its strong Wok Hei and generous sprinkling of dried pork bits, was a delight that could satisfy even the most discerning CKT critic. The Singapore Hokkien Mee, distinct from its KL counterpart which is fried with dark soy sauce, was equally impressive. Although I usually prefer KL Hokkien Mee, I found the Singapore version to be just as delicious. I suggest that a little extra gravy could improve the texture and enhance the flavour further. One of the most appealing aspects of Jalan Alor is its pricing. The dishes are more affordable compared to many competitors, making it well worth the trip to savour the authentic flavors without breaking the bank. In conclusion, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Malaysian cuisine in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this café promises a memorable dining experience that will leave you coming back for more.
