Tried this for lunch today and it was soooo yummy!! the fish was fresh and crispy. the prawns and the scallops were so big and cooked perfectly. Seasoned really well. The owners were lovely. Thank you

I was there for Family reunion dinner, so I don't know what the costs of the food is but all the dishes tasted very nice. I have taken photos of the dishes served so I have uploaded them here.

This hidden gem manages to keep costs low without compromising on quality, making it a standout choice for Malaysian cuisine enthusiasts. My visit took place on a weekday afternoon, and the café was buzzing with the lively chatter of Malaysian and Singaporean patrons, easily identifiable by their accents. The setting is reminiscent of a traditional kopi tiam, with its clean and welcoming environment, small tables, plastic stools, and paper cups for water, creating a cozy and unpretentious dining experience. Despite the trend of some restaurants cutting down on serving fried noodles due to high labour costs, Jalan Alor proudly offers a wide array of Malaysian favourites. From the aromatic Chow Kuey Teow (CKT) and Hokkien Mee to the flavourful Mee Goreng, nasi lemak, curry, and laksa dishes, the menu is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. The CKT, with its strong Wok Hei and generous sprinkling of dried pork bits, was a delight that could satisfy even the most discerning CKT critic. The Singapore Hokkien Mee, distinct from its KL counterpart which is fried with dark soy sauce, was equally impressive. Although I usually prefer KL Hokkien Mee, I found the Singapore version to be just as delicious. I suggest that a little extra gravy could improve the texture and enhance the flavour further. One of the most appealing aspects of Jalan Alor is its pricing. The dishes are more affordable compared to many competitors, making it well worth the trip to savour the authentic flavors without breaking the bank. In conclusion, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Malaysian cuisine in a relaxed and friendly setting. Jalan Alor is one of the newer Malaysian restaurants, which also comes highly recommended by some, although reading some of the reviews it seems everyone's experiences can be quite mixed. Our summary: The Good 👍 - Cheap dishes at $10 for most and $15.50 for noodles. 💰 - Serving size is average, so fairly good value for money. 🍽️ - Authentic Kopitiam vibe - The CKT was actually quite decent with wok hey The OK - The Sawarak Kolo mee was just a lot of noodles 🍜 with some meat, no veggies. I guess for $10 I can't complain but here I am writing about this. - Fish head curry was decent. - the Satay had a different peanut sauce flavour than what we would normally have elsewhere. Not bad, just different. The bad 😞 - The KL Hokkien mee wasn't great. Too sweet and had a very very fishy (squid) after taste. Also took about 30mins to come. - the Sweet Chee Chong Fun was again very sweet but and the noodles were stuck together and hard in some places. Tbh if not for the stuck hard noodles this dish would have been ok to good. Overall, if you are looking for cheap Malaysian eats and aren't too fussed on quality, this place is worth a try. If you want something which is actually good, there are many other places in and around east of Melbourne!

Generous and flavourful pho 🍜 We ordered the special beef small pho $16 and backbone pho medium $19. The soup was so hot and umami, generous with the portions. The backbone comes with two portions and comes off the bone. 🦴

The battered fish was perfectly cooked and crunchy, the minimum chips is generous enough for 2 to share and were well cooked and salted, and the calamari rings were perfectly done! The only issue was the skin on the grilled flake was strangely chewy - probably more to do with the cut of the fish but also could've done with some high heat to crisp it up, as it was only cooked on a hotplate (so more "seared" than grilled) $37.50 for 3 pieces of fish, minimum chips, and four calamari rings - a very decent price these days I think!
