Jalan Alor is one of the newer Malaysian restaurants, which also comes highly recommended by some, although reading some of the reviews it seems everyone's experiences can be quite mixed.
Our summary:
The Good 👍
- Cheap dishes at $10 for most and $15.50 for noodles. 💰
- Serving size is average, so fairly good value for money. 🍽️
- Authentic Kopitiam vibe
- The CKT was actually quite decent with wok hey
The OK
- The Sawarak Kolo mee was just a lot of noodles 🍜 with some meat, no veggies. I guess for $10 I can't complain but here I am writing about this.
- Fish head curry was decent.
- the Satay had a different peanut sauce flavour than what we would normally have elsewhere. Not bad, just different.
The bad 😞
- The KL Hokkien mee wasn't great. Too sweet and had a very very fishy (squid) after taste. Also took about 30mins to come.
- the Sweet Chee Chong Fun was again very sweet but and the noodles were stuck together and hard in some places. Tbh if not for the stuck hard noodles this dish would have been ok to good.
Overall, if you are looking for cheap Malaysian eats and aren't too fussed on quality, this place is worth a try. If you want something which is actually good, there are many other places in and around east of Melbourne!

If you're looking for a spot that serves authentic Malaysian flavours without breaking the bank, this restaurant is an absolute gem. It offers a variety of local dishes that truly capture the essence of Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage, and what really stands out is how affordable everything is—without sacrificing taste or portion size.
One of my absolute favourites here is the curry laksa. The broth is rich and fragrant, with just the right balance of spice and creaminess from the coconut milk. Each bowl comes generously loaded with noodles, tofu puffs, egg, and a choice of chicken or seafood, making it a hearty, satisfying meal on its own. It’s the kind of dish that hits all the right notes—comforting, flavorful, and deeply satisfying.
The chicken rice is another standout. The chicken is always tender and juicy, served with fragrant, fluffy rice that's been cooked in rich chicken stock. The accompanying chili sauce and ginger paste are spot-on, enhancing the overall experience and bringing the dish to life.
What I appreciate most is the portion sizes. For the price you pay, the servings are very generous—perfect for a filling lunch or dinner. Whether you're a local craving home-style food or a traveler wanting to try something authentic, this place delivers every time. Highly recommended!

The opening of the new Malaysian restaurant, Jalan Alor Micham, in Britannia Mall, has appealed to many with their extensive menu selection and reasonable prices.
We have dined there several times, and it's been a bit of a hit and miss experience. The biggest drawcard is definitely its affordable $10 dishes (including favourites such as Hainanese Chicken Rice, Pork Soup with Noodles etc.) and the quick serving of food. Diners should maintain reasonable expectations for those prices.
It's overall a decent spot for some quick and affordable Malaysian food.

Newly opened Malaysian restaurant that’s been drawing crowds and constantly busy.
First off, the food. It’s not the kind of meal that will blow your mind, but it’s comforting and decent.
The real star here is the price. There’s a range of dishes for $10, it’s an incredible bargain! While the flavors might not be groundbreaking, the value for money is undeniable.
I’ll keep coming back as long as the prices stay low. But, if they eventually revert to the $15-$20 range, I might reconsider. For now, though, it’s a budget-friendly gem worth checking out.

Good Malaysian meals at very affordable prices, can't complain much with that price. White Curry Mee is good.
They have inside and outside seating.
There is a long line during peak lunch hour.
