Bara Fish and Chips in Altona is the real deal. I went in for a quick bite and walked out with a new go-to spot. The flathead was absolutely spot-on — flaky, fresh, and fried to golden perfection. You can taste the quality in every bite.
But what really sets this place apart? The girls behind the counter — warm, welcoming, and genuinely lovely. Service like this is rare and makes all the difference.
Oh, and let’s talk about the steak sandwiches — hands down, the best in Altona. Juicy, flavorful, and stacked just right. 🤩
If you’re in the area and craving classic Aussie fish and chips with a side of top-tier service, this is your spot. 👍

Honestly the best fish & chips I’ve had!
The fish is super fresh, the batter is crispy not greasy and the chips are perfect crunchy outside, fluffy inside. Everything just tastes right. Big portions, good prices, and the staff are legends.
If you love proper fish & chips, this place is a must. You’ll be back for sure

Would have been 5 stars if the potato cakes we got was not so greasy, needed to be drained a little more.

4.5 star fish & chips - great grilled fish (fresh flake), terrific steamed dim sims & thick & real potato cakes (old school, ask & pay for 4 & get 5) - friendly service, genuine smiles. Super clean oil - great chips. My only criticism is you have to put a lemon wedge in for each piece of fish & start throwing in Napkins & offer cutlery as folk go to the beach to eat, plus offer sauces such as tomato, soy & tartar. Very good range of drinks. Very reasonable price too.
Finally, and I have to say it boys - and I know the Victorian Gov World leading COVID lockdown life has really knocked us about but you have to clean your light fittings & freshen the place up a bit because your product is too good. New sign required.
