St James Fish & Chips

Ordered a Half Family Pack (2 pieces fish, chips & 2 pineapple fritters) to pick up on a Friday night. The order was prepared quickly and ready on time. We ended up getting 3 pieces of fish, which were cooked to perfection: fresh, flaky, nicely battered and fried. The chips had a slightly different texture than what we we're used to, and were missing the quintessential chicken salt flavour that I crave when having f&c. The pineapple fritters were also missing the cinnamon sugar coating that I'm normally used to, and my entire meal ended up having a somewhat similar flavour. The prices are a bit higher than what I'm used to but was still a great feed overall. *EDIT* Went back last week, we ordered 2 pieces of fish and chips, they gave us an extra piece of fish again. Husband asked for extra chicken salt and everything was PERFECT. Chips were deliciously crispy and golden and fish was just as good as the first time we had it. Definitely our favourite chippy now!

Hello all, What has happened to the delicious fish & chips they are known for? After not having been for a while, last Friday we ordered our usual grilled barramundi, flake, & 4 dim sims with chips. As always, generous servings but this time, the fish was dry and fell apart. The dim sims were soggy and chips ok. Not an enjoyable dinner and won’t be back. 🙁

It is a fish n chip shop, not a restaurant. It is dedicated to making fish n chips and everything deep fried. No salads, a drinks fridge. It is efficient open and the focus is providing fast freshly cooked fish n chips which they do very well, which is why on fish n chip night for our family we choose them. Their portions are generous, the chips are well cooked and they ask what seasoning you want which is a bonus; chicken salt, sea salt, salt n vinegar. Everyone enjoyed the food. I will go there again when it is our turn for fish n chip night

The food was awesome, and the service was great. But they ran out of cutlery, which is a minus. The food was too hot with no cutlery available. Had to use our hands, and it's not a pleasant experience. But recommend for takeaway and eat it at home. The food was still great after placing it in the airfryer overnight.

Fish: soft and flaky, with a nice crisp batter. Light taste with no over powering oil flavour. Might be using a lighter oil. Very good hake fish done right. Chips: on the soft side. Ordered online, but next time would request to fry it a bit longer in the comments. The potato used for the chips are more of the waxy type of potato. This means generally a smoother and moist center of the chip, but less crunch on the outside. Generally a starchy potato is used for fluffy inside, which was missing here. No chicken salt option online, not sure if this can be requested. Salt on the light side. Not my favourite chip. May also be affected by the current potato shortage, needing to change potato varieties. Ordered online on tuckerfox. Went in to pickup and was greeted straight away, got my order, and out the door. Very easy and seamless, and staff seem friendly. Will try again to see if quality is consistent. A bit on the pricy side, but not outrageous. Edit: ordered in person with chicken salt, and chips are perfect now!
