Japanese

The traditional cuisine of Japan is based on rice with miso soup and other dishes; there is an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Side dishes often consist of fish, pickled vegetables, and vegetables cooked in broth. Seafood is common, often grilled, but also served raw as sashimi or in sushi. Seafood and vegetables are also deep-fried in a light batter, as tempura.

quote Amazing casual but elevated breakfast. Absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautiful presentation. The kids had waffles with caramelized bananas and bacon. We even tried the Vietnamese prawn spring rolls with peanut hoisin sauce which were excellent. Gorgeous lattes and hot cocoas too! A hidden gem!

quote Popped in for a morning tea as a break whilst merchandising in The Warehouse next door. Had a lemon curd muffin and medium mocha. The muffin was fantastic, no hunting for the lemon curd it was beautiful and the coffee was great too. Decently priced and such lovely friendly staff. I wish there were more of these in Tauranga.

quote Good place to have a bite. The buns are always good; get the cabbage and red bean buns. Their fried dumplings are also delicious; we love the pork and chives, which I highly recommend. Overall OK but not that impressive.

quote Momma Fe Cantina Café is our go-to spot for amazing Filipino food! We ordered their iconic pork sisig, pork BBQ, sinigang, salted egg salad, halo-halo, and everything was absolutely delicious. The sisig was my favorite: flavorful, perfectly seasoned, not too greasy, and so satisfying. The halo-halo was the perfect ending, it was creamy, crunchy, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The service is great, and the restaurant has a warm, homey vibe. It can get busy, so I recommend booking a reservation ahead and preordering your favorite dishes. Parking can be limited, so it’s good to have a plan B if the on-site spots are full. Overall, such a fantastic place whether you’re after a coffee, a hearty family meal, or just craving authentic Filipino flavors. Highly recommended!
